Every wax jacket has a story.
We help it continue.

At Waxjassen Onderhoud, everything we do is built around traditional craftsmanship, a genuine passion for our trade, and caring for both your treasured wax jacket and the environment.
Our journey began in the world of theatre, where we worked as tailors for stage productions, musicals and opera. From there, our craft evolved into the world of premium lifestyle fashion, bespoke gentlemen's tailoring and traditional Scottish kilts. Today, we've devoted ourselves entirely to what we enjoy most, the professional care, repair and restoration of quality wax jackets.
Our expertise has been shaped through training with respected names such as RADA in London, Scabal in Brussels and Barbour in South Shields, combined with more than 25 years of professional tailoring experience.
Professional wax jacket care is at the heart of everything we do. Our workshop specialises in three essential services that help preserve both the appearance and the performance of your jacket:
Looking after a wax jacket involves far more than simply removing everyday dirt. Over time, jackets can develop stubborn odours, mildew and deeply ingrained contamination. We carefully remove these using specialist steam cleaning techniques together with environmentally friendly cleaning products that are gentle on both the wax finish and the fabric itself. The result is a jacket that feels fresh again while retaining the character that makes it unique.
Whether your jacket has snags, worn seams, damaged linings or faulty zips and press studs, every repair is carried out with meticulous attention to detail. We also offer professional sleeve shortening and lengthening where required. We are tailors with a passion!
Using an extensive range of specialist industrial sewing machines, combined with traditional tailoring skills, we're able to restore all Barbour wax jackets and coats, and all from virtually every leading brand. Where possible, we use the unique production code found inside Barbour jackets to identify the original fabric batch, allowing us to carry out repairs using matching materials for the most authentic finish.
✅ Professional Rewaxing
Every wax jacket deserves an individual approach. Depending on the style of jacket and the weight of the cotton fabric, we carefully select the most appropriate rewaxing method to restore the protective finish. The result is a jacket that remains windproof, water-resistant and comfortable to wear, while retaining the authentic appearance that makes a wax jacket so distinctive.
For every reproofing treatment, we only use high quality premium wax, directly supplied to us by the original manufacturer. You can imagine, this comes in large quantities.
Our mission is simple: to give every wax jacket the expert care it deserves, so it continues to do exactly what it was designed for: protecting you from the elements. We believe that a well-made, well-maintained wax jacket should last a lifetime and often much longer. Through traditional craftsmanship, attention to detail and genuine care, we ensure every jacket leaves our workshop in excellent condition, ready for many more years of faithful service.
No matter what condition your jacket is in when it arrives at our workshop, our goal is always the same: to return it to you ready to be worn with pride once again.
We're passionate about playing our part in creating a more sustainable future for clothing. Every week, thousands of kilograms of textiles end up at waste and recycling facilities, much of it the result of overproduction or cheaply made garments that were never designed to last. Sadly, a large proportion of these textiles cannot be recycled.
We believe there's a better way. Through expert repairs, professional rewaxing and high-quality restoration, we help ensure that premium wax jackets can be enjoyed for generations to come. Not only as practical outdoor clothing, but also as treasured possessions with stories worth preserving.
Some jackets simply deserve another chance. If you no longer wear your wax jacket and would like to donate it, our Reloved Project gives it a new purpose. Every donated jacket is carefully restored by our team before finding a new owner, someone who truly needs it. In this way, we're not only giving jackets a second life, but also bringing warmth, comfort and a little happiness to the people who receive them.
Whether your wax jacket needs professional cleaning, expert repairs or a fresh rewaxing treatment or you'd like to support our Reloved Project, we'd be delighted to hear from you.

At Waxjassen Onderhoud, quality, craftsmanship and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do. We're proud to be recognised by organisations that share our commitment to exceptional craftsmanship and outstanding service. Together, we're helping preserve traditional craftsmanship for future generations.
The story of the wax jacket began long before it became a country style icon. The earliest predecessors were oilskin jackets, developed for fishermen, sailors and dock workers who spent their working lives exposed to harsh weather at sea. Ordinary wool and cotton garments quickly became soaked through, leaving their wearers cold and uncomfortable.
Through years of practical experience, mariners discovered that treating cotton fabric with natural oils created a protective barrier against the wind and rain. These early oilskin garments were rugged, practical and built for one purpose: keeping people dry in some of the hardest conditions imaginable.
As textile technology evolved, traditional oils gradually gave way to specially developed wax finishes. The result was the modern wax jacket: durable, weather-resistant, breathable and equally at home in the countryside as it is in everyday life.
No discussion of wax jackets would be complete without mentioning Barbour.
Founded in 1894 in South Shields, England, Barbour has become one of Britain's most respected heritage brands. For more than a century, the company has been producing premium wax jackets renowned for their quality, durability and timeless design.
Today, the fifth generation of the Barbour family continues to lead the business, combining traditional craftsmanship with ongoing innovation to ensure the wax jacket remains as relevant today as it was over a century ago.
